![]() Hello Banana Fans,
This is the bunch of the banana that has been grown believing to be Musa Hajaray. The seedling was bought from a German nursery of "fronsthartepalmen" As you can see from the picture, the shape of the fingers is very similar to that of Musa Namwah, and not to that of the public picture released from the nurery. The next photo is released from the German nursery. The shape of the fngers is quite diferent from my photo. I am only at a loss what happened with this banana. ![]() Both photos look like Namwah to me, just with different lighting and different growing conditions that affect the bunch size and finger shape.

![]() IMO they are different bananas. Your bunch appears to be a normal looking Pisang Awak type, while the other has many differences, one that stands out is that it retained many of it's bracts between the hands which is typically an off-type trait.
Congrats...Great looking bunch....Enjoy.... ![]()

![]() Hey asacomm, may I ask you a thing? How long did take from flowering to fruit for Hajaray? If i recall correctly you posted about this bunch earlier, but not so much time ago, and it was just flowering. Did the finger filled so quickly?
Thank you. |

It started flowering end of July and harvested in the middle of November. So it took 3 months and a half for harvesting. This is the normal period between flowering and harvest here in my zone in Japan where is a little bit warmer than your place of Florence. Last edited by asacomm : 11-22-2014 at 02:42 AM. |

![]() Sorry that you were confused, but "Pisang Awak type" covers the entire subgroup and his bunch certainly appears to be in the Pisang Awak subgroup.
Every cultivar I've grown has retained a bract at one time or another even bananas without buds have retained bracts but the Hajaray photo retained most of it's bracts which is typically an off-type trait (well that's what the scientific journals said ![]()
