Musa Dwarf Cavendish Help
 

Hi Guys,

I am new to this site so apologies if I have posted in the wrong place or if there is already a post on this!

I have two beautiful Dwarf Cavendish plants that I have had for about 2 months or so (I bought them as small plug plants) and they are growing very well, at a good rate of about a new leaf a week. I am a little worried as some of the leaf tips are turning slightly yellow and looks like they are wilted on the tips as well. This is worrying me because I have read a little on panama disease and these are the symptoms, although I am trying to keep optimistic!

Does anyone know anymore, whether this sounds like it is panama disease or maybe this is just normal and the disease causes extremes of this to occurr?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If they're Potted up then there's very little chance that the the dreaded Panama is the culprit. IME those symptoms are usually due to:
Being Indoors
Low Humidity
Irregular Watering
Too much fertilizer(though with Bananas generally only happens when feeding while basically Dormant...)

Hi and welcome. Are these the oldest lowest leaves on the plant that are yellowing? If so this is just normal as they'll yellow then turn brown and dry while the upper plant continues growing. Are they indoors or out? If indoors you may just have spider mites causing this, check for webbing or a dust like substance on the leaves. Let's hear more.

Hi thanks both of you for posts, yes they are the oldest leaves on the plant. I thought that was the case and then I came across Panama Disease and I thought maybe the nursery I bought them from may have it. But I think I am more inclined to think that it is just normal now you have both said that. Yes they are inside but I keep on top of their care constantly and make sure there are no insects or spider mites attacking them and other than the oldest leaves going slightly yellow they are looking really good. The leaves have started getting bigger and they are now showing beautiful purple on the leaves which I know is completely normal.

I live in the UK and I am determined to get them to fruit (whether it kills me).

Have either of you got any stories about this species? I am so intrigued, although everyone I know thinks I am crazy as I am 20 years old and I have the greenest of fingers!!

Greenfingers, I'm new at this too so dont have much, your best bet would be to click on the "wiki"on the upper left of the top blue line and also the "search" on the opposite side. Great starting point here. Hope you get some fruits.
