Default Musa Dwarf French Plaintain

Does anyone have any information on Musa Dwarf French Plaintain? I found a few references to this mystery banana but only one picture. It is beautiful...

Marisha,

The "WIKI" is at the top of the page in the dark blue column. Look where the photo gallery is and go over 2 spots. The wiki is a place where other have posted information on certain subjects, like the Musa Dwarf French Plaintain. Just click on the banana wiki, when the new page appears just enter the name in the search box. Hope this helped.

Follow-up: I just tried to search the "WIKI" and there has been no entries. Might try to google!

French plantains are a group of plantains, none of which are normally referred to as the 'French Plantain' in the areas they are grown in. These are true plantains which have retained their male buds, unlike Horn, False Horn, and French Horn plantains which have degenerated or non-existent male buds. I'm pretty sure that the cultivar 'Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain' is a French plantain. I know at least that Going Bananas carries this cultivar and I've seen that others do too.

I want the banana pictured, maybe it is not a French dwarf. The green and white variegated leaves with the red trim is very unique and beautiful.

I see why you think it's so beautiful now, but unfortunately that is not a French Plantain. The banana with variegated green and white leaves is the rare, expensive and highly sought after 'Aeae' banana. Often times online dealers get names and pictures very mixed up and it can be hard to tell what is what. Try doing a search on our forum for aeae or ae ae.

Thanks Gabe, I see that now. I have a musa ae ae and it does not have that red color outlining its leaves. Well I just got it and it only has 1 and 1/2 leaves.

The red outlining is never very noticeable if its there at all, I have only seen it on young plants growing in certain conditions, it eventually fades with age and is never really a prominent feature of the plant.

How well does the Dwarf Puerto Rican produce, and how is the taste?
