My basjoo's came in today. I ordered them on Friday. They shipped from Florida on Monday and they are here already!!!! I ordered them from gsawgle on Ebay for only $5.49 a piece!! I highly recommend this seller as they arrived in A+ condition. They are going in the ground in a few hours!
My dwarf cavendishes wilted a bit today. I think its from the transplanting/sun. I think they will bounce back though as the new growth doesn't look affected...just the older leaves. Here is a pic of the basjoo's: ![]() |

Excellent plants. I'm guessing you ordered from Wellspring. My basjoos were this big 4 years ago when I bought them. The first year they grew to 6 ft overall height. Then, they grew to 10 ft the next year, then 13 ft the year after, and now will probably approach 16 ft. They are fun plants!

I will definitely let you know how they overwinter. I plan on just cutting them back to a foot and mulching over. Now I'm wondering if I should cover them with a tarp or not. The tarp could keep out moisture, but if moisture gets underneath, it also will trap moisture. The coldest we got the last two winters was about -5F. Although in the winter of 1996 we had -26F. Lets hope that doesn't happen.
I'm probably going to have about 30-40 basjoo's by the end of summer. |
