Musa Basjoo?

I just orded 2 musa basjoo from 9greenbox (10.00 bucks each)and got them yesterday at about 1ft tall. My ? is, some of the leaves (not all) on both plants have a red stripe going down the middle of the front of the leave, so is this normal or did they send me the wrong plants? THANKS, TRAY

It looks normal to me, but I have never had a basjoo that size. Maybe its one of those basjoo varieties that everyone is looking for! It would be pretty cool if it had that red center on it as an adult!

Don't worry about the red in basjoo, they often grow red when there maturing. My very large patch is showing similar characteristics after a cold winter.

Hey, Your in the same zone as me, I guess that makes you as crazy as me, LOL I got my first musa basjoos, 2 of them, last year around august and they looked like yours, size etc.,without the red, Since then, some of the pups have shown red in the spine just like yours. It will go away as it ages I think? The ones that had it , lost it after a short while.
I kept mine alive and thriving through the winter with gro lites etc. and this spring I put one in the ground and still have one in a big pot. Both are giving off multiple pups/ suckers, mostly sword suckers which I understand are more desirable cause they are stronger. I have lots of pics from different stages that I have yet to upload. You might be interested in some of them as you are growing the same. I will post them on my photo gallery soon but you have to give me a day or 2 since I really suck at it and it seems to take forever to do.
Today I actually separated some pups from the mother and transplanted them, pics to come!!
Good luck

The red becomes more evident, when you look "through the leaf" against the light. I did not notice it
in mine, until I did that.

Thanks for the input! i just wanted to make sure it wasn't an abyssinian. And scott just let me know i'll def. check em out. I'm fix'n to put mine in the ground this weekend after i get some MILORGANITE! It might be nasty but a lot of people swear by it, lol! I also just ordered a MUSA MEKONG GIANT for in a shady spot. Does anybody have any experience or input as to growing this type of banana? They say it's cold hardy but (i read ) people say they're not. IDK--I got a SIAM RUBY coming also-(BTW.. I'M FAIRLY NEW AT THIS GAME! First time i have ever tried gardening! and also i live in western MD... Gotta love them mountains!
