mulching Muso in Michigan

I,m sure this has been discussed many atime before but exactly how should I mulch my Muso and Blood leaf for winter? I just cut them down to 1-2 ft and mulch around them and tie plastic around the whole thing? I've never done this before. I have enjoyed my bananas to no end this year. Thanks all, BK~

The Blood leaf banana (aka Musa zebrina) is not very winter hardy. I'm not sure I'd try leaving it in the ground in your area. I live in Houston and mine typically dies to the ground each winter but resprouts from the corm in the spring.
