Moving to South Florida

Hey all!
It's weird not posting in the "Cold Hardy" part of this forum, but I'm moving from a condo in Chicago to a house in South Florida and looking for some banana varieties to plant by my pool. The space is between the pool and a fence, and is around 3 foot wide, full sun. What types should I grow? Ideally, I want something taller than the fence (6 feet) for added privacy, but I don't even know where to begin looking! When I search, all I come up with is the cold hardy varieties!

Thanks!

The hardy list is a list of plants that will tolerate lower temperatures that are common in south Florida.Once you move into that environment you will be able to predict what you can grow .
Exciting times ahead because your plant list has expanded a bit:)

The list is accurate....just pick and choose your banana flavor.

Hello WindyCityzen,

Welcome to the Sunshine state!

I would suggest a visit to Going Bananas in homestead, FL (near Miami). A lovely couple runs this place and they are a very helpful when it comes to selecting varieties appropriate for you garden. Great prices and healthy sizeable plants. I'm in central Florida and in the past, have made the trip down there to buy plants. They have a sizeable amount of their place planted with many varieties to provide the customer with a visual of the adult size of the plants. They also provide tastings of varieties when harvested bunches are available.
Welcome to Going Bananas of Homestead, Florida!
