Maurelli flowering bracht

I used to live near the beach in Santa Cruz, CA and planted a border around my little city lot that had Maurelli every 20' with palms, cannas and giant bird of paradise in between.

The Maurelli (10 of them in all) reached about 20-25' with very thick trunks. They sent up these huge clothed brachts that drooped almost all the way to the ground.

The area is dominantly foggy and I had them on drip irrigation. The cannas even (tall red) grew to over 11' high, topping my rain gutters.

Not a single pup from any of the Maurelli - any ideas on how they "naturally" propigate?

These pictures were taken during winter... still trying to find some with the plants at their prime.

This one gives you a little idea - it was the runt of the group. (the Turbo Z came with me to Kauai - anybody want a good deal on a nice Z?)

Nice pictures Erik. Ensete do not pup at all unless forced to, but it is not natural. They naturally propagate by seed.
