Been doing some research on what we have.

We know them as Majunche.

I believe they are called Burro in Mexico.

From the description and research they look to be Orinoco.

They are usually eaten when they are mostly black, heat them up on the grill or on the stove, or eaten raw.

The only reference I found here for majunche describes a completely different plant. And there was a banana that the Mayans called Majunche.

Below are some pics of what we have. We have 6 with fruit left, 1 or 2 that are not flowering yet, and got rid off all the ones that were old and had fruited already. There were so many that some where on top of previous years plants, no dirt at all. We had these planted on 3 parts of the property, going to diversify now with more varieties of bananas.

In the Caribbean they are called Pig Bananas, Mafafo de Puerco.

In California they are called Tall Cali Gold, and are almost mythical.

When I was in the Caribbean, the so called Majunche bananas were more of a reddish/purplish color, similar to a plantain. We grilled them (with skin on) or ate them out of hand as a dessert banana, but if not ripe enough, they were very astringent.
