M. laterita set to bloom
I just noticed yesterday that my Musa laterita already has a bud! I haven't even gotten around to repotting it yet. I have it in about a 30 gal. pot and it has several pups coming up. One of the biggest ones has the bud. This is definitely one of the easiest bananas to fruit-even in a pot.

Re: M. laterita set to bloom
It doesn't look like much at the moment. It still has all the dead leaves from winter. I've just been so busy that I haven't gotten around to doing anything at all to it. Tomorrow I have to cut down a 30' cottonwood and dig out two huge sago palms and then Saturday I have to work our Earth Day event here in Houston. I guess I'll repot it in my "spare time"!

Re: M. laterita set to bloom
If you mean currently, the tallest pstem is only 2' max- and that's the one about to bloom. I usually have one bloom very early like this each year. This banana usually reaches about 6-8' tall each year even in the pot.

Re: M. laterita set to bloom
Tog- I've never gotten viable seed from this banana, even though it is regularly visited by bees, wasps, and hummingbirds. Maybe I'll see if I can do some hand pollination this year.

Re: M. laterita set to bloom
For a seedhoarder like you, I am not surprised it's not even in dirt, so how can it germ? Go check again.....
Don't go talking naughty Brent, many ladies here, all I can register are the key words in your sentence ; banana - hand pollination. |
