I don't exactly _know_, but my first guess would be lack of minerals.

My California Gold did that, first leaf after being stored for winter. I think the cold and being bare-root disrupted the formation of the leaf. They are all fine now, and it even has a flag leaf!

Was the leaf edge brown and burnt while it was rolled up?

The last three leaves on one of my basjoos looks like that too. I'd be interested in knowing the cause and if there is a way to fix it.

Here's a picture

Just today I noticed the next unfurled leaf that is showing looks deformed.

I'm guessing that some small caterpillar or tiny beetle may cause this to happen. I've seen something simialar on my cannas, though not so much on my bananas. I haven't had any leafroller damage all year until the return of the rains (finally!) about two weeks ago. The leafroller damage began showing up yesterday. They could be the culprit. Do you guys ever notice any leaves stitched together with silk? If not, it's probably some other type of caterpillar.

I Have Never Noticed Any Leaf Stitched Togeter. The Only Thing I Have Seen , Is Most Of The Leafs On This Plant Have A Small Scar All In The Same Place

My Ice creams and Rajapuri did this last year and I fixed it with tea .This year I have had the problems in the same mats but the Ice creams pulled out of it .The Rajapuri are really bad off . I have two plants with flags on em' right now but the leaves are horrible. I even moved some to a different soil type (with more organic material) last year but they have this condition still . It has been much more severe in my plants than those in your pics and it's only in my Rajapuri mats and only in the larger plants.
Some leaves emerge in pieces and some with only the midrib intact.

Ok here is my Nino who has horrible leaf damage. Its not a bug or creature, but what am I doing wrong?

I have several holes in the bottom of the pots and it drains very well, so I dont think I'm over watering. Here's what the whole tree looks like. The leaves come out with this brown area. The brown is stuck together and does not let the leaf unfold and when it finally tears and opens the area dies quickly.

Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stumpy, I had two like that on a goldfinger of mine, but not as severe. I unraveled the leaf by hand, the next one had the same damage, but less, and then the one after was alright. I had just fertilized it a week before the perfect leaf emerged with organic (plant tone) 6-6-6 and it seemed to stop doing it all together and three leaves since, it's all good!

Yeah, I think it might be lack of nutrients. My bird of paradise plant made two crumbled leaves like that after being in the same pot without fertilizer for a long time, and leaves look fine again after I repotted to new soil.

I read [1] that bananas need fertilizer with a 3-1-6 ratio, for example 6-2-12. They need a lot a K2O (potash dioxide). I thought that helpful, although the authors seem to regard only balbisiana and acuminata.
