Konahuanui Iholena
 

I was hiking with a group up to the Konahuanui summit, the tallest peak in the Ko'olau mountain range on O'ahu, this past weekend and along the way spotted a group of what appears to be at least some type of Iholena (you can see the reddish undersides on at least one of the plants). We didn't go over to them, but if we can find a safe route, I may go try and take a look at them closer before the semester is over. Below are photos of the plants and Google Earth images of where the group is as indicated by the green ovals (with the coordinates being accurately pinpointed).

Awesome photos! Good luck finding a safe passage to those bananas. Let us know how it turns out. I didn't spend any time on O'ahu when I was in Hawaii, other that flying in and out, but I'd like to some day.

Nice, those might be some of the long lost Hawaiian bananas.

I'm pretty sure they are Iholena Kapua, a fairly common variety, but its cool to see none the less.

It looks like a matter of ridge-running along one a few of the minors and then 100 yards of bush-whacking.
