Just Back from Costa Rica

I have never seen so many Bananas!!!! All types/sizes were growing wild everywhere.

If Delta ever finds my luggage, I will post some pictures.

The most remarkable banana that I saw was on with a solid black psuedostem. It was nearly 20 feet tall. It was a very striking plant and would be a great lanscape specimen. When I talked to the locals, they said it was once used for making fibers/rope, but now that is too labor intensive. The fruit was inedible with many seeds.

Is anyone familair with this type?

I'll bet it was beautiful there! Someone here is bound to know what that plant is.
I hope you get your luggage back soon!

Love the colour on those Musa , be good to know what it is and if we can grow it. You did not get a chance at collecting seeds then ?

No seed collecting on this trip. We saw this one too. Very strange.

Very nice.
I keep talking about taking a trip down there, but have mainly been looking at the Pacific coast. (since that's where the Dendrobates granuliferous are located). I have a few friends that go down there once a year. I will have to ask if they have seen those bananas.

We saw hundreds of these little guys near the black bananas. D. pumilio, another poison dart frog.

We got a good deal from VRBO.com

Porkpi, sorry I never caught up with you on Edisto! Maybe next year.

The first is likely a Musa textilis variety, there are many different varieties of it (a photo of the fruit bunch would make it easier to say though). The second one is Musa balbisiana.
