sean,
Musa rubinea and Musa 'Jamaican Red' are polar opposites in the banana world. The rubinea is a newly discovered (not even published yet) species of wild banana from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province of China in the section of Musa, Rhodochlamys. Musa 'Jamaican Red' is a cultivated edible variety that is derived from Musa acuminata (being a acuminata triploid, aka (AAA) and originated in the carribeanand is in the section of Musa, Eumusa. Edible bananas are not wild and they are very different from thier wild congenors.
