Nate, that is a very useful website, one that I consult frequently. He badly needs to update it though, and it would be nice to see some more, better-quality pictures as well. It's nice to be able to read the original descriptions. Quite helpful in banana species identification.

At the bottom it said it's copyrighted to David Constantine
I believe he was the owner of KobaKoba, which is now closed. I read somewhere it may be do to illness, others think he may be moving, ect ect. Either way it's too bad, because David is the one that rediscovered Ensete ventricosum 'Montbeliardii'.

Yea, it is a good site but does need some updating. I probably should have posted the whole site but I found this portion very interesting. What I found most interesting is that Orinoco's are actually called quadrano's but I never hear anyone call them that. Wonder why? I'm trying to learn the "correct names" for all the nana's but I think I'd confuse someone if I said I had a lot of Quadranos! Ha Ha!:sumbrero:

I spoke to david a month ago and he told me although Koba-koba has now closed its nursery they will both be selling a few plants on ebay and from their house. He didn't go into detail why it closed and out of respect I never asked. Its a shame as for us in the UK he was our Gabe. A very helpful man. I shall miss not being able to visit the nursery any more.:(

Mark, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope David is OK. It's always a real shame when a specialty nursery like that closes down. I try to make a point of patronizing my local specialty nurseries before I ever set foot in places like Home Depot or Lowes, etc. Invariably, the plants are always of superior quality, even though they may be a few bucks more.

Is he going to continue to maintain the website? I hope so.

Don of UKOasis seems to think Simon of UK Nursery Amulree is going to do some propagation of Koba Koba/David stock . I hope this is true , Simon is a great guy and well into making deals so UK buyers can get good plants .
Monty is a great plant but for the US market not much different from the Maurelii clone here. The UK Maurelii clone is very different from the US one. it's a very dark coloured plant that grows in a squat manner but also gets very big. Ensete 'Hiniba' is a very cool Ensete , be great to see it on the US Market.
Later
Steve
