Default Ice Cream Flower!

I have a flower on one of my Ice Cream (Blue Java)!

Looking forward to its fruiting!

I highly recommend this variety for anyone in Zone 9 or higher. Easy to grow, recovers well from winter, pups like there is no tomorrow.

Does the fruit really taste like vanilla or is it just a marketing tool.

Congratulations Bepah - I hope it does well for you.

Mushtaq - to be honest I was a little disappointed with the flavour of mine. Perhaps I had built up too much expectation of vanilla/custard - they were nice enough but nowhere near as good as my Orinoco which are beyond delicious. Perhaps some plants are better than others though.

I get the feeling that you all want pics......it is 101 degrees outside right now (7:15 pm).

Tomorrow morning you'll get one. I suspect that I would be happy with 4 hands. I'll be mulching with compost tomorrow and increasing the water as well...

It is a ploy of the International Brotherhood of Musa acuminata 'Blue Java' Guild. They have, for centuries, kept the secret of the Ice Cream banana to themselves. This secret society is even more insidious than the Masons, Trilateral Commission, or Skull and Bones.

Those who cross them or attempt to steal the 'secret' of the Ice Cream Banana usually end up as only am memory and their families exiled to Albania where they must root for potatoes to eke out an extremely meager existence.

Last summer, we made a few loaves of banana bread from these bananas and we all aged an entire year!

There are a couple of photos in the gallery.

My concern is that there aen't enough leaves to generate the fruit....we shall see.

Don't tell the guild......

I think that was my problem. I only have 3.5 leafs on my fruiting IC right now. It has fruits on it and seems to be on its way to getting riper but it sure is taking a long time. The little fingers are still filling in, does anyone know if the male flower's will stop opening up? Is that when the nanaer's are gone? It seem everyday Male flowers keep opening up.

The "flower" will continue to grow, thus new male flowers will open every day or two for 90 to 120 days.

One of my Ice Creams is doing this now, check out photo gallery.

So it takes about 120 days till the fruit is ripe?
