Thanks Nick, Great Pics.

You're very lucky to grow in an area without any leaf diseases.

I have some sigatoka and cordana, but the dry cooler weather is keeping a lid on things. We haven't had much appreciable rain since early October.

A little isn't too bad, it keeps you observant.

I can't leave green or brown leaves laying on the ground in the field, it would be disastrous.

The Morado is beautiful, hopefully it stays under 20'.

It's unfortunate you can't leave leaves on the ground, it is great weed control.

Whether it's fortunate or unfortunate, we don't leave the leaves on the ground here.

In the tropics, the banana leaves act as a barrier on the soil surface limiting the oxygen,

as the soil goes anaerobic the roots near the surface die.

It looks like Baloy is going to top out pretty short (5'). The pre-flag leaf is coming out. Some kind of dwarf cavendish.

I'm glad to hear this, as I recently cleared about 10 or so plants out of a mat and have alot of drying banana matter lying around. Can I just throw them under the plants or would they be better chopped first? And I didn't know they limit surface oxygen in the tropics; they perform the same function as mulch no? I don't mind cutting them into smaller pieces if that would solve the no oxygen access issue.

I'm really starting to like this variety from all the pictures you've been posting Nicolas; can you tell me some of its merits? Is it a faster bloomer etc? The bunch you posting on the blooming page looks a pretty decent size too from what I assume to be a first generation's harvest

Baloy is a relatively fast bloomer, I planted last July and it looks like I will harvest this July. It was by far the fastest of the group that I planted. It is the plant crop and it flowered in early March. I have another one or two at the shoreline farm that was planted in August. It has not flowered yet. It seems like it might be a real winner for greenhouses.

It certainly sounds like a pretty good variety and eight months to blooming isn't bad at all; is your shoreline farm cooler tempwise than this one, or is there some other that you think is lengthening the time for the Baloy down there to bloom?

Also do you know what it tastes like? If it's a nice flavor and has all these nice growths patterns it's a winner for me.

I'm wondering if I can get it to fruit even faster since I'm zone 11
