Nothing like that in Lowes/HD or Menards here. :( Thanks for id'ing the banana for me. And yes, it's really gorgeous.

How do we take care of them when we bring them inside? Or is it similar to canna where we can dig during first frost and keep the rhizome?

I looked at it on ebay and some are selling it. I found out that these grow to 10 to 20 ft. If I put them in a container, can that hinder the growth? I only want it to grow like 6-7 ft.

V1rtu0s1ty the are frost tender you could live them out side in zones 9 throw 11 they are a variant of Ensete Ventricosum and are from Ethiopia were they grow in the tampered low planes they are fairly slow growers taking up to 10 years to come to maturity but most will do it in 5 years they are easily over wintered in a pot in a sunny window in your house they will tolerate quite a bit of shade
when you dig them up you don't have to worry to much about the roots they just grow new ones in the pots makes transplanting them vary nice indeed just don't damage the corm if you want to let them go doormat i wouldn't recommend it with this type of banana although I'm sure other here on the org probably do that i just never have i live in NV and its way to harsh and dry here to store much of any thing I'm sure they would dry out and die and as for the hight question any thing grown in a pot is going to be smaller in size the ever thing Bananas trees flowers what ever it has limited root space it will grow shorter now as to how short who knows that plant typically gets to be over 20ft tall

Check with Sandy at NorthernTropics .com, I got two of these late this summer and they ARE beautiful plants, they just don't like frosty weather, I'm in zone 5 N. Illinois and gonna overwinter in the basement under flourescent lite and see how it goes, along with 2 basjoos,big ol' pot Dwarf Cavs. 2Gran Nains, 2 Zebrina Rojo's, a Lasiocarpa and various other tropicals and citrus plants. check Northern Tropics Greenhouse :bananas_b

Thanks! Why are you bringing in your basjoo? I'm leaving mine in the ground but with protection. They say that basjoo are proven to withstand Chicago winter but with some protection.
