I just want a yard like Rmplmnz!
First off - I hope Rmplmnz fared well with our recent tropical weather as we did a few miles north of him...
Anyways - the newer plants I planted (dwarf Cavs) were not doing so hot until after the recent rain. Leaves were turning brown and had large holes in them. Any thoughts on the holes? Just the sun? Need more water? I have been reading the forum a lot - and am wondering if I should remove all the grass within (x) amount of feet from my plants - please give suggestions if you have one... All I have for fertilizer right now is Citrus stuff made by miracle grow... is that OK for now? How often to use fertilizer? Sorry for the dumb questions - but I really want to get my plants going good, fast, and edible. I have lots of room for more, and as the title says, I want a yard like Rmplmnz - but do I have to wait 40 years? Here is an image of my road taken from the end of my driveway this weekend.... My plants were well above the flood stage though. I had to drain 8" out of the pool 3 times though.... [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: I just want a yard like Rmplmnz!
You have to plant really fast growing varities like Saba, Nam Wah, Ensete, etc... And as for the grass thing, I would personally remove grass a few feet away from plants if possible only because grass always ends up traveling into planting beds. I dont have enough room to make sure this doesnt happen with my beds so Im constantly weeding grass out.
The great thing about banana plants is that they become large in just a few years. If you have 10, 3 foot tall banana plants now, 5 years from now your bananas will be huge and fruiting!

Re: I just want a yard like Rmplmnz!
Rmplmnz does have an enviable yard. If you want yours to be like his, get rid of the grass and mulch like crazy. It won't take long for you to have success that way. A little fert of any kind won't hurt, but don't go overboard.
