Re: I got my Paggi!
Best tasting banana I have tried so far... It likes it warm. Congrats.

Re: I got my Paggi!
I'm hopeful and excited to try it. I have been told it has a slight lemon taste to it. So I think I will really like it since I like the subacid bananas.

Re: I got my Paggi!
It has a bit of a tang but sweet, but not too sweet. Like a bowl of blackberries is how I describe it. Get them as soon as they fall off of their own accord.

Re: I got my Paggi!
Hi all, I ended up planting in the ground a different pup that the one first pictured. This "pup" was about six feet tall. It originally didn't look very happy after the move. After a period of acclimating it started growing quickly. It has since fruited at about 7' PS. It produced a very very small bunch of bananas. I don't think this is normal for this variety. The largest pup it has produced is about 2.5' PS. It is growing strong and will hopefully flower next summer.

Re: I got my Paggi!
How did you like them? I wish I could taste Paggi again. I cannot seem to grow bananas in my yard anymore. Some bacterial infection all over the area here it seems.

Re: I got my Paggi!
No fruit yet. My Paggi should fruit this coming summer. With the colder winter temps all my bananas stop growing.

Re: I got my Paggi!
Hi all, my Paggi survived a very cold winter. Here at my house we got 550 hours of chill. That is about double the chill hours I usually get. I even had ice on my windshield one morning. The Paggi handled the cold fine. It handled the cold better than my Dwarf Red, AeAe and variegated Florida. I’ll post a picture of it later today.

Re: I got my Paggi!
Here is a current picture:
Is is about eight feet tall PS. There is a bulge at the base of the PS. I'm guessing it will flower in September. Bill Last edited by Best day : 07-19-2021 at 05:45 PM. |

Re: I got my Paggi!
My Paggi flowered! Here is the flower on August 24. It looks a lot like Gros Michel.
Here is the fruit on August 28. And the bunch on September 7. It is a small bunch. I don't know if this is normal or if the bunches in the future will get bigger as the corm matures. Also I haven't fertilized much this summer so I am sure that contributed to the small bunch. Bill |
