Default I got my Paggi!

Thanks to venturabananas I am now the proud owner of Musa Paggi. It wasn't growing very well for Mark. He had it in a spot with a lot of shade and Ventura doesn't get a lot of heat. I'm hoping here in Long Beach it will be happier. I will keep you guys updated.

Best tasting banana I have tried so far... It likes it warm. Congrats.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

I'm hopeful and excited to try it. I have been told it has a slight lemon taste to it. So I think I will really like it since I like the subacid bananas.

It has a bit of a tang but sweet, but not too sweet. Like a bowl of blackberries is how I describe it. Get them as soon as they fall off of their own accord.

Hi all, I ended up planting in the ground a different pup that the one first pictured. This "pup" was about six feet tall. It originally didn't look very happy after the move. After a period of acclimating it started growing quickly. It has since fruited at about 7' PS. It produced a very very small bunch of bananas. I don't think this is normal for this variety. The largest pup it has produced is about 2.5' PS. It is growing strong and will hopefully flower next summer.

My Paggi made it through the winter fine. The lowest we got down to was 37-38 degrees. It has no damage. My Gros Michel on the other hand has brown spots all over its leaves. But it is in a more open unprotected spot. Paggi is about 40" tall PS now.

Paggi is growing strong! PS is now 76". I'll have to wait till next year for fruit. We are having a heat wave right now with a high of 96 today. So I should still get some good growth before winter hits.

How did you like them? I wish I could taste Paggi again. I cannot seem to grow bananas in my yard anymore. Some bacterial infection all over the area here it seems.

No fruit yet. My Paggi should fruit this coming summer. With the colder winter temps all my bananas stop growing.

Hi all, my Paggi survived a very cold winter. Here at my house we got 550 hours of chill. That is about double the chill hours I usually get. I even had ice on my windshield one morning. The Paggi handled the cold fine. It handled the cold better than my Dwarf Red, AeAe and variegated Florida. I’ll post a picture of it later today.

Here is a current picture:

Is is about eight feet tall PS. There is a bulge at the base of the PS. I'm guessing it will flower in September.

My Paggi flowered! Here is the flower on August 24. It looks a lot like Gros Michel.

Here is the fruit on August 28.

And the bunch on September 7. It is a small bunch. I don't know if this is normal or if the bunches in the future will get bigger as the corm matures. Also I haven't fertilized much this summer so I am sure that contributed to the small bunch.
