Sure thing Bob...

your Hollyberries might take awhile to ripen too, before I can mail the shrub, and then we can talk about a trade. For once, I couldn't agree with you more!

Looking good Ante! I bet you'lll be posting your flowering process next year! One thing I noticed about Ice Cream bananas is that they put out more pups than most of the other varieties I have so last year I started removing most of them when they were very small to keep more energy in the mother corm. I kept one pup on mine so when I chop the one with the bananas down later this year it will have the full mature corm supplying it. You can see it's almost as tall as the parent plant now but, that one had about 7 feet cut off of it in the previous 2 winters to bring indoors.

Question Re: I either have a flag on my

I am wondering, and others that have never grown bananas may be wondering as well...

What happens to a banana plant after it produces fruits? Is it capable of flowering again, or does the plant die?

HBL, it eventually dies as it never sends out another leaf, but it can be sustained for a long time if other plants in the mat exist to help feed it.

Yesterday was the day! I cut the 3 month old bunch off the plant:

and now it's hanging on my front porch , I'm just hoping they'll ripen having only matured about half way as opposed to if they were in a warmer zone.

Sure it's a stunted and not overly productive bunch but .. for New Jersey ....one of the first plants I got when joining the org and my first bunch of bananas I'll take it.

I cut the mother plant down keeping the whole corm to supply nutrients to the pup that I'll dig up this week. I really believe that will help it produce even faster the next time but more on that in another thread yet to come.

I was thinking you were going to protect them for a bit in a little greenhouse but they should still ripen just fine for you.
