I do wonder whether or not...

This is a picture of a flowing of Dwarf Cavendish with its grwoing pup.
I do wonder whether or not the pup should be seperated in order to prevent
the mother from being stolen much nutricious by the pup. Another reason is
that it will take a few months until the fruits are ripen during which time the
pup could grow to break the container.

What do you think, should I seperate the pup or leave it till the fruits are
ripen?

Leave the pup until its done fruiting, its not good to stress out the plant, especially in a container, while its fruiting. It will not be diverting nutrients away from the fruit, in fact plants generally direct nutrients to the flower/fruit specifically so that they have a better chance of spreading their genetic material.

Thanks, Gabe. I honestly follow your instruction. I also thought about a
stress to the mother lant.

Hello, Lagniappe.
The bunch seen on the left is also Dwarf Cavendish that bloomed sometime
in the last month and potted in a 60littre/about 16gal.container.

Do you keep these plants indoors for the winter ?
What do you feed them ?
Have you fruited any other containerized bananas ?

Sorry for all the questions but container banana plants have really grabbed my attention .
Thanks for your replies :)

Thanks for your attention, Pete,
Yes, I put such large containers indoor where minimum trmperature 3C/37.4F
could be maintained without heating appliancies. I seldom used heater except
4-5 freezing nights in the whole winter.

The fertilizer I used was basically 8N:8P:8K quite normal chemical one.

The other banana I harvested fruits in container was "King banana" a variety
originated in the Bonin Islands in the Pacific. I don't know if there is the
species in US, but I believe there must be some similar varieties under some
different names.

May I pipe in with a question of my own? I have a DC that has pupped like crazy, but the main pstem has yet to put out a bloom. Should I separate all the pups (maybe 6 pups) and try to get the main pstem to flower? I guess my main question is why the main pstem has not flowered. I overwintered it inside last year and will do the same again this winter. Man, with everyone showing off their blooms, I guess you could say I have bloom envy!!!!
