How to tell if namwah ripe
I planted namwah about 2 years ago, I have had bannans on for several months, but I don't know how to tell if they are ripe, do they turn yellow?
Thanks Carl |

yes bananas will be turned yellow after ripening, but before that they need to make an artificial ripening

Re: How to tell if namwah ripe
The rough rule of thumb is 6 months from flower to being a candidate for picking & ripening off the plant - which is usually done to prevent the fruit from splitting the peel. (not an issue with a few cultivars, like the Orinocos, which can be ripened on the plant.)
This 6 month guesstimate can get extended because of cold weather; I usually don't even bother counting days of less than 55°-65°F. If your plant flowers in the fall & you have a cold winter, fruit can be hanging for 10 months or more. |

Please post a picture if you have a chance. Seeing how far along the fruit is at the moment may help us to estimate how much time you may have left.
