Re: How many pups
It depends. If it's dead, you're guaranteed to get zero.

Re: How many pups
I've got about 250 mats. I've seen them range from 1 to 10 on the same plant. The production of the plant ( size of the bunch or number of hands) does not seem to indicate the number of pups from what I've seen. I have plants that have looked dead for months and now have pups growing out of the ground.
Good luck. |

Re: How many pups
I think it largely depends up on the health of the plant, growing conditions, and which cultivar you are talking about. Some seem to be heavy puppers while others tend to pup only sparingly.

Re: How many pups
I have recently been reading that different varieties seem to vary in their apical dominance. Some cultivars pup freely, while others don't pup until they have started to flower.
From my own experience, Dwarf Nam Wah pups profusely while the plantains do not. I've also noticed enormous differences in the ease of getting suckers separated from the mother. Gran Nain and Enano común plantain are extremely easy to pull suckers off of, while Hua Moa and Agristarts Misi Luki have given me fits of rage due to the number of suckers that broke off under ground. |

Re: How many pups
It largely depends on the variety as well. I have a mystery nanner with only 3 feet of p-stem that has put out 2 pups that are quickly gaining on the mother plant.
