How long do most bananas take to ripen?

Does anyone know how long bananas take to ripen from the time that the bloom opens? My banana finally put out a bloom and the fingers are approximately 3 inches long by about 1/2 inch wide - they've been like this now for about a month...

Rule of thumb is 6 months.

I'd hate to disagree with PIT who knows a LOT more than I do, but in FL (maybe that is the difference) I can almost depend on a little over 4 months. Longest has been 5 months.

One thing we can all agree on, is that they take a while!!! lol! Seems like forever when you are watching and waiting, and drooling! Nice picture btw.

I think it depends on the area you live and the type of banana. Reds take longer than greens. In my yard it takes 6 months give or take.

Thanks for the help, guys..........

No, Mskitty, that's not a tarp, it's a poly, portable greenhouse that I use as an outdoor sunroom and keep it heated above 65f constantly.

If you write the date that the first hand appeared on the side of the stalk with a felt pen, you will be able to figure out how long it took in your location. Warmer climates are faster, cooler ones slower. When you figure out the time for your location, next time you can pick one hand at a tme when they are green (but mature) and extend your harvest. Who want to eat 100 bananas in a week?

My Bordelons started coming out in November, but they're still tiny. I don't think they like my cold greenhouse much.It gets down to 50 at night in there, and some days too with the weather we've been having. Not much sun on a regular basis here.
That will change soon though, another month or two.
