Talking How can I grow bananas from my trees?

Hey! Is there any way for me to be able to grow bananas from my trees? Considering that I live in Northeastern Ohio and the fact that I have to bring my plants inside over winter. I have yet to get one stinking banana! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.....

To be more specific I’ll keep the banana trees in the ground from spring thru fall. In October I will dig them up then put in them pots. I will then bring them inside and keep them growing until next May. When I will bring them out and plant back in the ground. Will that allow me to be able to have my trees flower and then grow fruit?

It should..... Plenty of sun, water, and fertilizer. Ty uses MOP and urea to fertilize. I can't find a bulk supplier of it yet..... Fringe cohol is a great variety for that. Fruits relatively quickly, and ripens quickly.

Gee thanks for that! I am glad to know that it might just work after all! I can’t wait to tell some people about this! They don’t believe me that I could get bananas! Brilliant!

Depending on your variety, the banana plant needs 280 to 340 plus warm growing days (upper 70s to 90 deg F) to fruit. Then require 3 to 6 months to ripen the fruit. So do your math and keep the plant very warm with bright lights during the winter.

Some members of the forum have stored their plants bare root in the garage or basement (dormant) then set out the following spring; And, successfully fruited their nanas.

Hello! Thanks for your reply! Very interesting! I am glad to know about growing days and ripening info. I don’t think I ever read that anywhere! Who would have thought (those of us who haven’t had any yet that is) it would take 3 to 6 months to ripen your fruit! Glad to know that others on here have put there trees away dormant and still ended up getting bananas! Nice! This info will definitely help me in my quest!

MOP is Muriate of Potash, and urea is urea Both fertilizers. I believe MOP has an NPK of 60-0-0 (around that) and urea is 0-0-40 (or close)
