Default How can I tell when to harvest?

I planted Ice Cream Bananas in south Florida approximately October 2018. I tried repeatedly to upload pictures into the gallery but they don't seem to be posting. I'm not getting an error message, when I hit submit it takes me right back to the page that says I haven't posted in awhile.

I'm trying to determine how to know when I should cut them and bring them inside to ripen. Any suggestions?

If vermin aren’t a problem in your area, I would personally leave them on intill they are starting to turn yellow. If raccoons 🦝 or fruit 🍌 🦇 are a problem, I would harvest them when they are all plumped out, and there reallyany ridges in the fruit. With the uploading problem, I cannot help you as I am having the same problem. Cheers

We do have raccoons, but worse than that, we have iguanas. Big suckers that are eating everything beautiful in my backyard. I'm fearful that they will get them before we get the chance.

Does anybody know of the time frame for these particular bananas? I've seen widely varying time frames - everything from 3 months to 18 months because they are the "blue java"? Does the blue java really take that much longer to mature?

Maybe you could bag the bananas with a banana bag from amazon, with a galvanized mesh on the bottom. Not sure how to share a link to a video, but type in, “how to bag a bunch of bananas”, and click on the video by Self sufficient Me.

Not sure of the ripening time , but I would guess 3-4 months from time of bloom.

Your pic's may be to large, I think they need to be 2MB or smaller.

I've never managed to figure out the pic thing on this site (I've actually given up). I just use one of the free hosting sites, and pasted the link.

Fruit to harvest can vary from variety to location. I have 4 Blue Java in various stages of development. 1st flower was mid April and if I would have to guess I have 30 to 45 days to go.
Happy growing,
DARLA

Joy Re: How can I tell when to harvest?

Cool. My first flower was mid-May so that would follow that I have a month longer than your estimate. Time enough to let them be. Thanks for your response.
