Hole in new leaf before it even opens
See a photo here:
https://i.imgur.com/hDEVXz8.jpg I've seen some similar holes on other leaves (both Basjoo and Blue Javas), but never before they even open. Is this simply something eating them or a sign of some other problem? |

Looks like caterpillar damage. Probably not a problem. Bananas grow too fast to be seriously harmed many one caterpillar. Look for brown liquid\poop. See if it's fresh and if you can find the criminal. It might be in the soil around the plant or maybe under a leaf. I dunno :ha: |

Looks like a hit and run or a smash and grab. Keep observing the crime scene like BBJ said and you might find the single perp. Chemical warfare for the last resort. Many times grasshoppers and caterpillars will just do a taste test and move on. Woodpeckers and borers will make a single hole and when the leaf unfurls looks like little machine gun holes evenly spaced across the leaf. I get tent caterpillars(those are obvious to see) on occasion in Ohio and I spray those fellas. |
