Help with new banana planting
I planted a 7 bananas lady finger along my back fence a few weeks ago because I thought they would make a good back drop against the pool I am putting in mid year. I am now worried that they may require a lot of maintenance and I'm wondering if I should remove them before they grow too big. Possibly pot them and move them closer to the house. What happens if I leave them without constantly chopping off pups?I was happy to fertilise them every 6 - 8 weeks over summer and water them regularly. I am worried about how far they will spread. Any advice would be appreciated. I am growing them for the tropical look, full sun aspect, rather than the fruit .

Re: Help with new banana planting
In What geographical location are the bananas growing?
How close to the pool will they be growing? |

Re: Help with new banana planting
I live on the Gold Coast Qld Australia so the temps and sunshine should be ok, on a west facing full sun wall.
They will be about 2m from the pool coping edge. Im at work sorry so I cant post any pictures. |

Re: Help with new banana planting
If you keep up with cutting out pups they don't spread, pups only pop out close to the middle. It can be annoying if you have a banana that pups a lot, but honestly I like the look of a banana mat. It's no problem for a yard.
