Exclamation Help! Is my AeAe plant dying?

I am really freaking out right now! Again I know that this is fall and you have to expect your plants to decline. Even when they are inside your home! My AeAe has almost died back to the soil. Is it dying? Is it going to be okay? I have included pictures this time! Any thoughts or comments? Thanks in advance!

Please lay a beer can (a coke can will do if no beer can: but no Pepsi) down there for scale in the photo. .... Now the soil does look dry. However, a health corn should come back with some water if it hasn't been dry for toooo long: IE, the corm has dried out. .... Also, if the potted plot is inside and the temps are normal (above 55 deg F & not near a cold window/glass door)) the plant should not have died back. (????) ... The roots do look good, so get the plant back into good potting soil (50%/50% mix) with a little water and wait. Keep the soil moist but not wet.

Was that plant in 100% peat?

Aww, “Joe” that was so nice of you to not only read my pm but to also answer me on this thread! You are so very kind and sweet! It means a great deal to me!

Yeah I think you might just be right! I am still trying to be a bit hopeful! Yes the corm was very dried out. I was kind of shocked to see how dried out it was! It’s probably because of the dumb peat moss. Ugh. I can’t win! If I use regular soil it ends being overwatered. Now that I tried to just use peat moss it’s too dried out. How unfair is that! So, I’m going to try to give the AeAe some more water and just sit back and see! Fingers crossed!

Was that plant in 100% peat?

Hey “Ed”! I’ll try to take it back out and put a can next to the corm hopefully later today! Anyway, yes both the soil and the corm itself are incredibly dried out! Actually, a lot of my plants are now. I see, so hopefully the might be a chance that it hasn’t totally dried out then! So far, fingers crossed! You know I don’t honestly know what the temps are inside that room! I usually keep the thermostat on 70-71 degrees. However, I have noticed that when I open the door to that room it does feel a little cold. Now the AeAe is not right near a window. I wonder if the heat from the furnace is getting lost under my pool cover I’m using to try and keep the room clean from the plants this year. I know that sounds weird but I threw the winter cover on the tables & the floor. Last year that room was so dirty and full of soil it wasn’t funny! Well, I’m glad to know that the roots look okay! Thank God! Yes the plant is in 100% peat moss. Yeah I really am beginning to totally regret using only this stuff! Oh, well. You live and you learn, right! Thanks so much as always for your help!

You don't need to take the corm out again. There just wasn't a scale to anything in the picture. We could have been looking at a 2" pot with a corm or a 14" pot and corm......

Hey! I was so not looking forward to digging it up back up! So thanks for letting me know that! I believe the AeAe plant was in a either a 3 or 5 gallon pot. It was a pretty decent sized one! Again, thanks!

Great! .... The reason I asked for a photo scale was to estimate the corm size. Small corms (tc) likely wouldn't survive 1 or 2 days in very dry soil; bigger corms fist size may be a few weeks; while a grown mature corm could survive a few months.

So to answer your original question the corm size mattered. ... It did look paper dry in the photo and likely died. But I Could not determines if the corm was completely dry from the photo. The large white roots gave the hint as they would have been gone if the corm was dead. ..... Max

Hey Max! Sorry for calling you the wrong name! My bad!

Anyway, I’m quite impressed about your knowledge of the different size corms! You know what could survive or die if too dried out! It totally makes sense why you needed a scale photo to find out if my plant was alive or dead! I’m glad to know about this! Should help me in the future!

Oh I get it! You’re pretty smart to be able to figure out if it has some white roots it may still be alive! I am grateful to you for helping me out and even sharing some of your knowledge with me!
