Help me to kill that nana !
Hi everybody,
Let's speak about a member of the musaceas family. The guy is a huge Strelizia augusta (I will post pictures of it very soon). It is a cold hardy and somewhat wind hardy ornemental very interesting to create a fast tropical look in the southern gardens. But.......I made a mistake. I planted it just near my house at 30 cm (sorry ! one foot) of the wall. Now it is six meters (sorry ! twenty feet) high and the roots are exploding the pavement around it. It is sad but I am thinking about killing it because it is very difficult extract its suckers and to make them root. They bleed water to death. I would like to plant a less greedy nana at its place. I am waiting for your suggestions to extract the thing. Phil PS : if anybody interested in it, please come to undig it and I will ship it to your home in an twenty feet UPS box.:ha::ha: |
Re: Help me to kill that nana !
That's a bird of paradise not a nanner. Good luck.

Yes, you are right. That is my mistake. Link toward strelizia Not a musacea but a zingiberacea. But my question is still valid. Any idea ? Phil |

Maybe it's this one...
Google Image Result for http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/2005/08/11/NativePlantFan9/7d6077.jpg Which, by the way, in in the family Musaceae...it's called 'Traveler's Palm, or Strelitzia ravenala |
Re: Help me to kill that nana !
I was wondering the same thing?

Re: Help me to kill that nana !
I don't think he's looking for an ID (especially since the OP says the plant name)....he is asking for ways to kill it.

Re: Help me to kill that nana !
It is not in Musaceae, it is in Strelitziaceae.
Heavy machinery if you want to extract it without killing it. |
Re: Help me to kill that nana !
One copper nail hammered in the p- stem will kill any plant or tree.

Re: Help me to kill that nana !
The best way;
Pour some gasolline into Pseudostem, around it and put some rocks around so that you won't make a fire. Throw a match and let it burn. When it becomes a 'porridge', take a showell and dig out the remains. Good luck! |
