Pups are banana offspring from the mother plant. And probably OK to put it in the ground, it's only August. And you're in zone 9-10...

leav two of the pups on that way you will get flowers and fruit on a raguler cical always leaf two new pups ever seson the main stem will grow and produce fruite when it gets big enough planting in the ground will give you a biger plants pots tend to stunt the groth but i have most of mine in pots pertect it from the sun wial its young then you can let it have sun in a few moths
PS if you live in a realy hot climet you are going to have to leave it in the shade for life

Well, Yes, the "pup" will grow into another "mother" plant eventually, and, eventually produce flowers and fruit just like its mother did.

You CAN remove the pups yes, however, if I understand this correctly, you should wait until the pup as at least 1 to 2 feet tall. You should also make sure that the "pup" has its own roots, attached to it too, before separating it from its mamma plant. You cant just pull it off either, you actually will have to cut the pup off/ out. Its somewhat like performing surgery on the mamma plant, espeically if the pup is directly attached to her corm.

IF you search the forums, I am sure there is plenty of information / recommendations on exactly how to remove the pup safely and at the right time.

Cory,

You may already be aware of this, but Musa sikkimensis does not produce what would normally be considered edible fruit-because of the seeds. If you're just wanting it for it's ornamental effects that's fine. If you're wanting a banana that produces edible, seedless fruit, you'll need to get another variety.

They'll have so many seeds it won't be worth the time.
