Help with Dwarf Cavendish!?
Hey everyone,
I've had this problem with my DC for the last month or so that I can't seem to figure out. It lost about 1/2 it's root ball to rot this spring because of using a cloth-type pot, so it took it most of the summer for it to recover. It starting to show some weird leaf problems again, however. The oldest leaves turn yellow then brown, wilt then break at the petiole junction. I've been fertilizing regularly and I've backed off the water quite a bit, because I thought it looked a lot like overwatering. I've been letting the plant wilt some before watering again to make sure that theres still not a lot of water in the lower part of the pot. I'm not sure if this is nutritional, water related, colder temps or disease. It's the weird wilting that has me concerned about Panama Disease. The largest pup is always wilted now, irrespective of watering. I've attached some pictures that might be helpful. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Help with Dwarf Cavendish!?
Looks fine.. Its going to shed its older leaves.. I prefer a pot where you can see how much the reservoir is holding.. :^)

Re: Help with Dwarf Cavendish!?
Thanks Abnshrek, glad to hear! That would be really helpful for sure. I've actually looked at trying to remove the built-in reservoir so that I would have a better idea of how much water is really in there, but it looks like it might be molded to the pot in one part.

Re: Help with Dwarf Cavendish!?
if its just dying leafs then its normal but if its doing that and wilting like bending over or tilting its a calcium problem its happened to mine and took such a long time to figure it out but what I do is make a blend of shredded dead banana leafs ground coffee and eggshells and mix it up really well like a compost and then cover the top layer of your soil with it its like a natural nitrogen explosion for you plant will fix everything! be sure to use a lot of eggshells if its wilting really bad though. little secrets like this saved my banana hope it does the same for you

Re: Help with Dwarf Cavendish!?
I have the same pot for my DC and the bottom leaves are also turning brown as well. The top leaves are healthy. I thought they were turning brown since they were the older leaves. If the leaves on top were turning brown, then I would worry. I am going to drill some small holes in the reservoir. I usually water it once a week because I don't know if it has water in the reservoir.
I am going to try the eggshells, coffee ground and banana peels. They are currently on cow manure compost and regular potting soil. |
