Help with banana pup

I have a banana pup that I recently planted, the top is getting kind of brown and mushy, I haven't overly watered it and the soil mix is light. it has been growing roots. Is there anything I can do to save it ? Is it too late?

Pix would help. Anything that is brown and mushy needs to be cut off or it will spread.

Show a pic of the complete plant and pot. How do you know it is growing roots since they are under the soil? ...

Now how big was the plant when it was potted?

Is the plant and pot outside or inside?

How much sun does it get?

How often are you watering the plant?

The plant is getting full sun, watered twice a week so the soil doesnt completely dry out. I know it has new roots because I felt them with my hand when seeing how moist the soil was. Bottom of the pup is between baseball and softball size.

Think of how the pup grows when attached to its mother. ... It gets full shading from its mother and the mat. ... So the pup needs bright sunlight but no direct hot sun.

The corm stores water for several days. So let the soil dry out before watering. This helps to kill root rot & fungus in the soil. Misting the leaves can help if the leaves start folding down.

The problem is rot on the top, I’ve lifted it to check the bottom and it’s ok.

That could be sun burn. But generally rot on the pstem is due to a problem within the pstem ( burrowing insect) or progressing rot in the corm causing the pstem to slowly die back.

Do I leave the cut exposed?

from the picture, the pstem looks a little less than "perfect" colour. Edwmax what do you think? The center does not look like the centers of those we cut back - ours are a little whiter. Not sure whata we might do, but I would consider cutting off another 1 inch and see if the colour improved, and if it did might even go another inch or 2.

I'm agree ... the pstem shows a dark bruise. Cut just below the bruise. Then slice open the section removed to see if the is any obvious cause for the problem. There should be some center growth within a couple of hours. ... If not and the cut starts turning dark brown, the problem is within the corm. ... Buy a new nana plant and pray over the sick one.

The cut turned brown, so I guess that's that. Will just have to try again.

Give it some time. While I do not have a lot of experience with bananas, I received a pup in January and the top started to turn brown and mushy. I cut off the top, but the cut started to brown. I worried over it, but left it alone and it eventually pushed new growth. The plant has since doubled in size and is doing well. Keep your fingers crossed!
