Help!

I live in south Florida and with all the unually cool weather we have been having (including frost) my two banana trees have suffered. Thought they died but they both now have healthy new leaves growing. So the trees looked horrible with all of the brown dead leaves so I trimed them off and not sure if I did the right thing or not. I pulled a couple of the leaves off from the bottom of the tree. What I pulled off was brown and underneath was green. I hope I didn't damage the trees in any way. I can post pics later but in a rush right now.
An insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Sounds like you didn't do any damage. Removing any brown/dead portions will not harm the plant. In fact, if it was brown and squishy, it was rot and that SHOULD be removed to prevent it from spreading to healthy tissue.

Very simple. If it is green, leave it. If it is brown or yellow, trim it.

Thanks for the replies...yes I did notice that rot smell on one of the trees. I just wasn't sure how far down you trimmed the dead leaves..on that particular tree I trimmed the leaves to the ground.

I trim dead leaves down to where it is green. That part is still photosynthetic and still useful to the tree.
