Have I killed it?
I purchased two small inexpensive greenhouses, and Ive placed my Cavendish Banana plant inside. We have had extremely Cold weather along with snow here in alabama, so I have not open the doorway to the greenhouse. It looks like the banana plant has turned brown, where I use to have two large stems. Did I destroy eat or will it be ok when Spring arrives?

Re: Have I killed it?
It depends on how cold it got inside the greenhouse. Did you have any heat? Without heat, the night times temps would go down to the same as the outside freezing temps. You'll have to wait & see next spring.

Re: Have I killed it?
I have a small” ceramic heater in the greenhouse that’s set to a comfortable low temp. We’ve had some days of snow here in Alabama and normally i would unzip the greenhouse to let some air in but have been unable to. I’m wondering did it get too hot inside. I’m hoping that it will grow back. Should i do anything to the stalks. They are still there, there’s 3, and appear to be in good shape

Lol. I have turned the heater down almost completely. I’m just worried if it will bear fruit next year. I was really hoping it would. But thanks for the advice.

You need to keep a check on the greenhouse inside temperature. ... And, I have also noticed with the greenhouse being much warmer the soil in the pots will dry out quicker. Small pots in my greenhouse need watering daily. The larger pots with bananas get some water weekly. |
Re: Have I killed it?
Oh ... today's high was 44° and the greenhouse temp was over 90° inside.
