Harvest? 32F-34F tonight
Temps are suppose to get down to 32F-34F for about six hours tonight. Most likely a clear, cloudless night. Bunch has been hanging for more than 4 months and is harvestable but can fill out more. Bunches are bagged but plants are not protected.

Re: Harvest? 32F-34F tonight
Biloxi has similar weather
I had a similar quandry several years ago with an orinoco - ended up putting a spotlight directly under the bunch using one of those lights with a spring clamp and a 10ft stepladder. The bunch made it thru the night - might've anyway.

In a bag, you should be fine. Even if the plant loses it's leaves you can harvest the bunch.

Re: Harvest? 32F-34F tonight
If you loose the leaves and they have not fully plumped they will not ripen. IMHO
If they are fully plumped they can usually withstand several hours at 32 but no more at least that is my experience with my varieties. If you loose the leaves and have not had a freeze they will not plump from other P-stems in the mat from my experience with my varieties. I checked at 0300 and it was 36 degrees on my front porch.

Re: Harvest? 32F-34F tonight
I had a 3640 that lost all it's leaves to a 26 degree freeze a month after it finished flowering but I covered the bunch and it survived. They filled out most of the way before the peduncle bent in 2. They ripened fine.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

Re: Harvest? 32F-34F tonight
I still hope that mine will plump and ripen after the leaves burn but have not had that good luck so far. Maybe this year as I have four bunches hanging. I'll look at them and evaluate on Thursday.
