Default Grocery Store Bananas are Great!

Actually, I meant Asian Grocery Store Bananas @ $2.19/pound.
16 fingers per hand---Thai Bananas.
These are the best I have ever eaten. Ever!

Maybe Namwahs?

They do look like Namwah, they are common in Asian markets.

See if you can find a South American market, Bob; you have a chance there at Oritos and Sedas....

Thanks lorax, I live within a couple of miles of many south American markets and just haven't thought of it. I don't speak Spanish(only bad words) but can get some help. At least I could pronounce Oritos ans Sedas easy enough though. I'll let you know how I make out.......I really got to find my camera , this could make a good post on it's own ..........hmmmmm

Here's a primer for you:

What type are these bananas: "Estes bananos, de que tipo son?"
How much are they: "Cuanto cuestan?" (each "el dedo", the hand "el mano", the bunch "el raceme")
Where are these bananas from? "De donde son estes bananos?"

If you're lucky, you'll get answers like "Oritos de Ecuador" or "Sedas de Venezuela" or even "Maquenos de Brazil" and the hand prices won't be too high.

Those are Nam Wah (Thai Bananas). Probably grown in Homestead, FL. I am starting a field of those right now because the demand is huge. I sell the fruit for $1.00 a pound and the flowers for $.75 a pound to a local store.

I found these at the grocery store about a 1/2 mile from home. Another day or so and they should be ready.

Perhaps you are confusing them with Saba, which are short and waxy, and is popularly used as a cooking banana. The photo appears to be of Namwah, which are also short and waxy, and look similar, but are a dessert banana.

The second one, Manzano, is definitely a dessert banana and one of the most common throughout the world.

That's true Gabe.
I thought the first one is a saba and to tell you the truth I've never encounter a Namwah for the many years that I go to oriental stores to buy them for cooking.
I always thought that they are saba or the same family but for $2.19 a lb then again I never find one that is so dear.
Now you got me interested to taste it.
