Manzano was the first variety I began cultivating, back in 1974.
Absolutely delightful flavor!
Left for college in the late 1970s and the family "plantation" continues still to this day!
The "plantation" is in Maryland, and corms are dug up and stored for winter each year, with 1/3 of each pseudo-stem's original height left attached to the corms. This increases the possibility of taller plants the following year.

GREAT DEAL ON YOUR acquisition!

Gone Bananas,
Mark Anthony

Mark: Does your Maryland plantation produce edible manzano fruits often?

Erick: Yes, they do fruit, but the season is not long enough to produce large bunches; although they do fruit, very little.

As I mentioned in another thread, digging up shocks the bananas so they never really have the chance to live a comfortable 18 months or so before fruiting.

They are disturbed when dug for winter, but are stored dry, in a cool, dark area of the house and not watered until clean up time and planting in late Spring.

We grow them merely for aesthetic purposes and get the occasional surprise of fruit or flower.

Best of Luck!

Gone Bananas,
Mark Anthony
