Here in zone 8 that does not happen. Of course the fruit only gets 1/4 that size. But o so sweet when picked when ripe.

Awesome eye candy. Thanks for posting.
It is my first year growing pineapples "sugarloaf". If they will get half the size of yours, I will be happy.

How much does a pineapple cost in your area?

Retail here for a very large one is less than $3.

That is interesting. It is between $2.99 and $4.99 here. I expected them to be cheaper in the tropics.

Here in S Florida $1.75 to $5.99. The larger ones are usually 5.99. But always very good tasting. I have 8 plants 😊 all from seed. Its amazing how sweet they are letting them stay on the plant untill ripe.

Do tell. How?

I guess I'm a better shopper than any of you. I never pay more than $1.49 and often find them for $1.29. No, they're not little ones--I'm too cheap to fall for that nonsense. Hefty and very delicious.

Ouch! That hurt😊 ... I'm not a good shopper 😂... Lots of stuff will have higher prices here because lots of people love to spend money needlessly. It drives some of us crazy! When a food item is cheap you can just about guarantee its either been frozen or its ready to expire! There is a food co-op that i go to. Its fun going early to be first in line :-). But when that door opens its mayham! So I guess its not all so bad.

There is no shopping around were I'm at, to go to more than one grocery store I have to drive 20 or 30 miles each way.

the grocery store in marathon is 20 mi and 30 to kw, so the choice is the crappy store up the road or drive.

Or grow it

Yeah Big Pine Key is pretty isolated - most people dont realize how long the florida keys really are.

5 Pineapples growing - that's a 25 gallon pot for size reference.
