Good variety for pots?

I used to live in Michigan but now I'm in the SF bay area but...I still only have a spot for a potted banana. Sad, isn't it? And to think I had to give away my potted SDC before I moved! I have a spot for maybe a 3' diameter pot and would like to nanaize it. Are there any varieties that would work OK in a pot? Ideally, I'd of course want actual fruit, but I'm not sure that's possible in a pot.

Can y'all recommend any direction for me to look? Thanks!

In a 3ft pot, any dwarf variety would do fine. I'm sure some taller ones would work too, but they may get more stressed after awhile. So anything like Dwarf Cavendish, Dwarf Orinoco, Dwarf Red (if it doesnt get too cold), probly Raja Puri, Williams, I bet you could get off with a Gran Nain as well...Rose.... probly anything listed with a 5-8ft height will work if you have the room above it (you may need about 15ft for some of the larger dwarf ones). I have a Rose in a 2ft diameter pot that has fruited once and about to fruit again, it grow wonderfully but since it has upright leaves, it takes up about 15ft of room even though the pseudostem is only 7ft tall about, so keep head space in mind.

I'd suggest growing a super dwarf brazilian banana variety called 'Truly Tiny' or ' little Prince' (which is an extra dwarf variety of cavendish). :0490: :0490:

Thanks! I'll see what the local places have. I actually would like something on the taller side so no worries there.

Hi Jeffrey,

Do you have a reference indicating that the 'Truly Tiny' is a super dwarf brazilian banana? Is this TRULY a TINY sport of Dwarf Brazilian?
