Germinating in water

hello

recently i experimented with germinating opuntia's in warm water and it succeeded all germinated.

have some one tried to germinate musa seeds in warm water ?
i want to try this and have read various articles that too much water in the seeds wil prevent germination ?

the seeds im going to try are velutina because they are cheap.

i am going to soak them 3 days in water with alot of burned material( burned paper etc - ash ) then i will plant them in water that is about 20 - 25 C'

Re: Germinating in water

Burned material contains certain chemical elements which i believe maybe can improve germination

Ash (analytical chemistry) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oxide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hey Pete, it is possible to do that according to an article I have around here somewhere. They used sterile tap water, and the seeds had been mechanically scarified with a scalpel on the side of the seed. The study was with Musa balbisiana. Results were about 35-40% germination I believe.
