HI Taylor, I did not really mean to get both, but I figured I needed a spare and I'd pay about the same for a spare , so I bid about the same and got it. There are a couple of the UK guys who want a pup at some point so I figure I better get two CA. That's it for me ,I'm not bidding on anymore and I suspect the next few will go cheaper. I missed out last year on the early CG pups from Mr Earl so I went for it this year, I figure the early season pups should be a pretty good size before I have to Greenhouse them or bring them in for the Winter. The first pup arrived in great shape, three good leaves , a good chunk of corm and roots. It's in the Greenhouse in a shaded spot getting a few more roots now. I should be able to put it out in full Sun in a week or so.
Later
Steve

Mr Saltydad :-) you will have to come round and see the CG in the flesh as it were , if this rain keeps up you will need a boat to cross Rock Creek. Hows the Siam Ruby doing?
Best Wishes

Chris did you buy yours direct from Jeff or someone else? I did not see another one on eBay. I am just trying to keep track of the trade, that's all.

Anybody have any idea why this plant can't be tissue cultured? Unlike the variegated banana which have the chimeral meristem tissue this plant should have only one cell line and therefore lend itself to cloning. There seems to be enough demand to warrant the initial lab cost.

I would really be interested to know the basics of tissue culturing or cloning. This is fascinating. Does anyone have a link to a site that explains the process, My thirst for learning is insatiable.
Thanks!

Here is the most popular and reliable website for "lightweight" TCulturing. Carol Stiff, PhD, the owner, travels around the country giving workshops that are comprehensive and reasonably priced. The website has links to a listserver which is a forum similar to Leo Manuel's Rarefruit newsletter, but is more like sending emails with questions and answers similar to our organization. Leo Manuel's newsletter is collected by him and he publishes it bi-monthly. Kck's emails goes to everyone on the list.
www.kitchenculturekit.com

The following link is just a link to their catalog, which you will find on the front page of the website. Their basic starts at $99:
Kitchen Culture Kits - Catalog Ordering

She also has recently incorporated a Tissue Culture International Association, a non-profit organization.

Phytotechlab.com has some good reads in PDF.
Plant Growth Research & Development | PhytoTechnology Laboratories

And check your library . I've found a lot of information on tissue culture in plant propagation books. Just search for tissue culture or micropropagation in thier database .

I forgot about this book. If you just want to read up and do experiments using simple household supplies, Plants from Test Tubes by Lydiane Kyte. I don't think you can get it any cheaper than here:
Amazon.com: Plants from Test Tubes: An Introduction to Micropropagation: Lydiane Kyte, John Kleyn: Books

I think this book actually gave Carol Stiff the idea of packaging a home kit.

The light bulb in my head came on. Keith Benson, one of our members here, is also a member in the Yahoo Home TC group and he posted some information back a couple of years ago at http://www.bananas.org/f2/micropropa...nanas-844.html. Some of this will be duplicates of links that Chong posted above, I believe.
