Fruit Hunters TV Series
This got shared around a couple of days ago and I finished watching it tonight and think it's well worth the time to watch for anyone who is very much into growing any fruits. There is a fair amount of coverage of bananas in the second episode. This is from a Canadian TV series which includes scenes from the Fruit Hunters movie which is expected to hit the screens in May. It's different from the movie, with more coverage of some scenes that were shot and less of others and various other things, I'm told. Each video is about 45 minutes long.

Re: Fruit Hunters TV Series
I am also curious about the white mango and have made some inquiries but haven't found out yet.
I didn't notice Gabe in it but will go back and watch again. [Edit: Thanks to Ante, I saw Gabe was hanging at at the Mango Festival at around the 6:00 mark in the first episode.] The two episodes was it, I believe. Last edited by harveyc : 03-10-2013 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Fruit Hunters TV Series
Saw those last night, love 'em but honestly it would've been nice if they covered more on the diversity if fruits, especially even touching on aside from our average Cavendish, but the many colors, shapes, flavors, etc of other bananas. And then with species diversity I love that they showed the Blackberry Jam fruit and mentioned the Peanutbutter fruit, but that was about it. I wished to hear and see more of what they only shot glimpses of. There were a lot of small scenes showing amazing fruits that I was happy to know I could name just by the short scene, but, they never touched on those little scenes.
ETA - So, is this a new show that is still pumping out more episodes? I heard of the Fruit Hunters last year and so I figured maybe that was it. . . ? |

Re: Fruit Hunters TV Series
Time constraints limits it to pretty much what they covered, I think. As I mentioned in the first post, this is a TV adaptation of a movie that comes out in May. I don't believe anything more of it will be on TV but there will other scenes in the movie. People have spent their lifetimes in pursuit of exotic fruits so there's much more than out there than can be shown in a movie or TV series.

Re: Fruit Hunters TV Series
I was curious about the outcome of the white mango so I wrote to Dr. Richard Fairchild. Here is his response!

Re: Fruit Hunters TV Series
I'm curious, so for you FL frequenters or residents - Does the Fairchild Garden go through any cold periods where they are in winter? For being such a paradise garden of diversity I'd imagine they would want the most frost-free region in Florida, and yet they don't have a greenhouse for large plants do they? Echo does, and they're able to keep even the craziest rarities like Pedalai, but I don't know if Fairchild does?
