Default Freeze Damage

Worst freeze in south Texas in 20 years. Poor bananas were put in ground last year and all look terrible. What tool should I use to cut them down and how far from the ground should I cut them??

Scissors or knife is sufficient, or possibly a saw if you need to remove large sections of pseudostem.

You only need to remove dark-brown-mushy portions. Anything that is green or dry-tannish color is OK.

You might want to:
A: Post some pics.
B: Hold off trimming 'till after all chance of frost is over.

Depending on the damage, you'll be either trimming off just the leaves or whacking them down close to the ground, or possibly even splitting up the corm if you get multiple suckers & want to spread them around a bit.

As previously mentioned, the "brown mush" will be needing to come off.

Ideally all you'll need to knock off are the leaves & they can start to grow pretty much from where they left off, otherwise you're essentially starting off from scratch.
