Flowering musa velutina

Just thought I'd post this nice picture of a flowering musa velutina in the greenhouses where I work at UT. I finally have a huge mat of this to plant here and leave in the ground this winter. Maybe the third time's the charm! It rotted under the house, and died in dry storage at warmer temps also. This time, it stays outside with some extra mulch.

Nice bananas. I just started some of these from seed. So far only two have sprouted, but still have a while before I get to where yours are at.

Everybody seems to be able to sprout them from seed except me. The only one I ever sprouted was 6 years ago, and a squirrel tore it up 2 days after it came up. I have a couple dozen going right now. So far, it's been well over a month and nothing yet. I know they can take a while though, and I have plenty anyway, but I like starting plants from seed. Sometimes you can get some genetic variations, which can be pretty cool.
