Florida Hill strikes again!
Well, it's official! My Ice Cream is actually a Namwah, and my gros michel us beginning to look a lot like my Gran Nain if in fact that is what it is as well! I live in Florida hill's land of the mystery bananas. I will learn to pay more attention to posts on here next time. I am desperately seeking a Gros Michel and I will not give up on my quest.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
At least namwah is good... but I understand your frustration.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
I don't know how they stay in business!
|
Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
So far the only thing I'm sure of is they are banana plants. Lol I will say this. The plants I got from Wellspring are what they say they are if that helps anyone.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
Consider it a blessing in disguise. Namwah is a much better tasting and more productive banana.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
+1 what Rob said, Namwah is a notch above.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
They stay in business because people keep buying from them.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
Thanks guys. I don't know a lot about Namwah but from what you say maybe I'll take it as a blessing in disguise. As far as wellspring I have had good luck ,plants are small like fl hill but at least they are what they say they are.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
I understand your consternation. You expected ice cream and got sherbet. In your case it may be a good thing, but how can you trust a company that doesn't even know what it is selling?!
If I buy a Honda Shadow, I don't want a Vespa shipped to me instead! |
Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
Most places are gonna have the Ice Cream mis-labeled as Namwah. It's how I got my first Namwah at a local Nursery, (no regrets) you can do a search on the forum here. Not defending the Nursery and I understand that you should be able to order with confidence. But from what I'm seeing, I don't think I would buy from those folks with the feedback I see here. But Ice Cream/Namwah is the exception to the rule and requires you to do your homework. There are several members here who can probably hook you up with the "Real Blue Java" if you check around.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
As far as I can tell, every "ice Cream" at Home Depot and several other places is really a Tall Namwah. Bought several from various places and had the same results. Finally found the real deal from the friend of a friend. Not a bad thing. They have a lot more fruit and much sweeter.

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
I wonder if that mistake goes all the way back to agri starts or wherever they come from?

Agri Starts should have corrected the Namwah/Ice Cream mistake years ago. Many people with the "real deal" including myself have offered them the real one, but they have also refused to take action. IMO that is not acceptable. If I want to order a Namwah, I should be able to get it from a reputable nursery. If I order an Ice Cream, I should get just that. This mistake (not just by Florida Hill or Agri Starts) has been tolerated and even excused (like some of the previous posts) way too long, but if there is no plaintiff there is no defendant. |
Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
Hello gang!
I thought I would try practicing posting pics of my recent orders last May 29, 2015 from FHN... FHN Ice BJ Cream Banana Gallery - FHN ice BJ cream FHN Ice BJ Cream same as above FHN Brazilian supposedly with red splotches/stains on the leaves. FHN Manzano I also ordered the Mona Lisa which I gave to my brother. The ML was the first to open a new leaf and seems to be the fastest grower and quick to aclimatize. The Ice Cream(I hope?) seems to be a close second. What do you guys think? Whats the verdict from the experts on here? You guys get the same plants from those who ordered recently? If I had to do it over...even if these were real or not, I really would prefer to purchase the corm or the pup. It would give you a head start on the growing cycle of the plant. Cheers! |
Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
Dog gonit!
I have to reread the instructions on posting the pics. BTW Happy PUPS Day to all the fathers in this site! |

Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
I'm not an attorney nor have I ever purchased from FH and won't so I don't have a dog in this fight but, if it can be proven that they are repeatedly selling merchandise that is not as advertised, they are breaking a few laws I suspect. Sure, everyone makes occasional mistakes; a good merchant generally attempts, apologetically, to remedy these few errors. They do not repeatedly refuse to acknowledge such and insinuate that the customer is wrong.
What to do? You can report them to Garden Watchdog and state your issues on every garden forum or you, the injured customer, can pursue legal remedies. Gardeners are, as a group, very forgiving but there comes a time when one takes a stand if only to protect his fellow dirty fingered friends. This might be a good place to put in a plug for Simmons Plant Farm. After wanting to order from them for over 20 years, I finally have my very own dirt so I purchased berry plants. 5 each (minimum) of several varieties. I'm fighting a new climate and unprepared planting areas (I'm growing in pots for now) so not every bare root "took"; I anticipated that figuring that as long as I got at least 1 of each at their prices I'd be happy. Sadly 2 groups of 5 did absolutely nothing. Fully aware that I was beyond the 10 day warranty, I sent an e-mail to let them know. I didn't expect a reply and certainly not an offer to replace next year or refund my money. I haven't decided what to do; I wanted the plants now and the lack of growth may partially be my fault. They're on my good vendor list for sure. |
Re: Florida Hill strikes again!
I'm wondering if Florida hill is affiliated with TY TY in Georgia . Kinda sounds like one of there many aliases . Just a thought I guess.
