Florida banana industry growing

I just saw some recent numbers and there are supposedly 500+ acres of commercial bananas/plantains in Florida. Almost double the acreage that was around in 2007. I am proudly part of it.

That's great news! I am on a job in Homestead and I can't believe the number of banana farms in the area I have driven by on a random daily basis. Thanks for sharing.................

The amazing thing is that with 500 acres of them you would start seeing them in stores like whole foods or publix, but almost all are being sold through roadside and ethnic markets. It would take about 10,000 acres just to fully supply the market in southern Florida.

I just saw a new planting on southern blvd in West Palm Beach, probably an acre or two and most likely just to get the Ag exemption on taxes.
