Re: is this a flag ?
Yours is definitely moving faster than mine. It's been cool here at the coast, not even in the 70's. The bananas are growing slowly!

Re: is this a flag ?
Time to break out the potash!
A good dose of potassium fertilizer will get the 'nannerlings off to a swift start. I like to use a little [fast acting] water-soluble along with the granular slow release at this stage. It'll will get things moving quickly before the winter weather slows growth (and fruit development) down to a crawl. The nice thing about dwarf orinoco is that they can be used like a plantain when green; they make some of the best tostones I've had. They're pretty tasty when ripe, too. They can even ripen on the stem without bursting.

Re: is this a flag ?
Here's the flag on an "old" Dwarf Orinoco that has already had the fruit harvested (red oval is where the fruit was hanging, flag leaf is directly above it)

Built from scrap materials, the plastic cover is the only thing that cost any $$, it takes about $12 worth of plastic sheeting & duct tape every year. It's a "lean-to greenhouse" in the winter & during summer the plastic comes off & a strip of shade cloth runs along the top 4'. (It's on a south facing wall.) Here's the winter configuration: A box fan on thermostat draws warmer air from under the house when temps get below 40°. A backup water mist is set to come on at 34°, which hasn't happened in the 4-5 years we've had it set up this way.
