First Flower - Dwarf Brazilian (Sept 2019)
Came back from a long Labor Day weekend out of town to a great surprise - one of our dwarf Brazilian bananas has flowered!
Stats: Dwarf Brazilian 2 'Kevin' Source: merce3 Planted: Sept 2018 Flowered: Sept 2019 (Labor Day) PS Height: 80" Pup: 60" Time to cut back on the nitrogen and keep up the potash feedings. I've read they can take 5-6 months to ripen. Hopefully they'll at least get some size on them in the 3-4 months of good weather we've got left before winter really sets in on the Texas coast.

Re: First Flower - Dwarf Brazilian (Sept 2019)
Congrats I bet your daughter is excited. I love to see the children's faces as they watch the flowers and bananas emerging. I am faced with the same concern with my Dearf Brazillian. I hope we both get to try them.
Happy growing, Darla

Thanks, Darla! The kid is pretty excited at the prospect of homegrown bananas. Good luck on yours as well. How is your Blue Java bunch filling out?
To Backyard Banana Joe - my measuring stick doesn't reach that far. I'd guess the leaves go another 3 or 3-1/2 ft beyond the pstem.

Re: First Flower - Dwarf Brazilian (Sept 2019)
Hi Darla! We are very good, thank you for asking. TS Imelda came and went. The worst of it stayed off to the east of us, so it was really just ~18" of rain over 2 days. I hope all is well with you and yours as well!
Our dwarf Brazilians are really coming along! I trimmed the male flower off the first last week to hopefully encourage her fingers to start filling in. I think I count 6 hands! The other bloomed while I was at Cape Canaveral last week. It's showing 3 hands so far. It so late I kind of hope it stops there, but we'll see. I'll try to post pics in the morning.

As requested, here are pictures of both Dwarf Brazilian bunches:
First bloom 'Kevin' @ ~1 month: Second bloom 'Bob' @ ~2 weeks: I count 6 hands on each.
